
Assessments & Levels
All new swimmers, starting from school age, will be assessed to determine their swimming level. This helps us place them in the class that will best support their development. Each assessment is conducted by one of our professional and qualified teachers to ensure they are placed in a class that suits their skills and needs.
REAL BEGINNER LEVELS
Our beginner levels concentrate highly on building water safety and confidence. Our aim in the early stages is to ensure the swimmer is able to float unassisted, and are introduced to kicking and arm strokes.
Starfish
- Water safety and confidence
- Floating unsupported (on front and on back)
- Breathing/Bubbles
- Kicking
- Streamline/Rocketship
Shark
- Continuously developing the key building blocks
- Introduction to straight freestyle arm strokes
- Developing coordination with arms and legs working together
- Introduction to backstroke kick
- Introduction to backstroke arm strokes
- Endurance: Able to hold their breath for 5 arm strokes, while holding their board and kicking
Lesson length – 30 minutes
BEGINNER LEVELS
In this level our aim is for children to have the correct stroke technique, and teach breathing position on the side. The swimmers are introduced to all four strokes, and work on kicking, strokes and breathing positions.
WaterLion
- Developing, strengthening and improving key building blocks (bubbles, kicking, straight arms)
- Further developing coordination between arms and legs (so they do not forget about their kicking while doing arm strokes, or vice versa)
- Be able to perform 5 perfect arm strokes in rocket ship, without the help of a floating device/teacher
Beginner Breather
- To continue developing key skills: Bubbles, straight arms, strong kickingContinuously developing the key building blocks
- Confidently perform breathing position (brain, goggle, cheek) with their kick board
- Swimmer can swim 25m doing their Swimming Arm, Breathing Arm with kick board
- Further backstroke development. Swimmer can swim 25m backstroke with arm strokes and kicking on the board
Lesson length – 30 minutes
INTERMEDIATE LEVELS
Advanced Breather
- Continued development of their freestyle and backstroke technique
- To get them swimming without any floating devices and hold their technique
- Learn full breaststroke – arms and legs coordination
- Learn full butterfly – arms and legs coordination
Final test to move into 1hr class
– Comfortably swim 4x 25m I.M (one lap of each stroke)
Lesson length – 30 minutes
ADVANCED LEVELS
Level 1
- Milage per session: 400m – 500m
- Introduction to all turns (freestyle, backstroke tumble turns, and touch turns)
- Can comfortably swim 50m with proper technique (freestyle, backstroke and butterfly)
- Dives
Level 2
- Milage per session: 500m – 800m
- Continued development of all turns
- Continued development of all four strokes
- Introduction to breaststroke pull-outs
- Dives and introduction to race starts
Level 3
- Milage per session 800m – 1000m
- Introduction to freestyle ‘bendy’ arms
- Further development of their backstroke
- Introduction to I.M touch turns
- Introduction to reading a swimming program
- Swimmers can comfortably swim 100m in any stroke (continuously), while holding their technique.
Level 4
- Milage per session 1000m – 1200m
- Continued development of all four strokes
- Continued development of dives and turns
- Introduction to using a stop watch/intervals at training
- Swimmers can comfortably swim 200m continuously, while holding their technique
Level 5
- Milage per session 1000-1500m
- Preparation for senior squad
- Conditioning, education and skills sessions
- Swimmers can comfortably swim 300m continuously, while holding their technique
Seniors
- Milage per session 1500m – 2000m
- Continued development on all skills and strokes
- Swimmers can comfortably swim 400m continuously, while holding their technique
